Nokia plans to do away with mobile money biz in India

Mobile handset major, Nokia which had ventured enthusiastically into the mobile money business in India is now said to have decided to retract its steps in the field.

“The mobile financial services business is not core to Nokia so we plan to exit the business,” said a spokesman for the company. The company still aims to continue staying focussed on its handset business.

Venturing into financial services domain has been a prime attraction for telecom service providers. Nokia also had taken steps on the same note and come up with mobile money services in India late last year.

The Kisan Credit Card is set to undergo some modifications. It may soon serve as an ATM card for the farmer; it would allow them to withdrawn money easily.

The chairman of NABARD, Mr. Prakash Bakshi said, “A report of a similar pilot project in Tamil Nadu has been submitted to the central government. It would eventually dispense with ‘business correspondent’ who are entrusted disbursement of the money to KCC beneficiaries.”

The new scheme may be implemented from the new fiscal year. The scheme will ensure swift availability of credit for the farmers.

Co-branded credit card launched by Karur Vysya Bank with SBI cards

Karur Vysya Bank has formed a consortium with SBI cards and has launched a co-braded credit card. The card will have two variants – Gold and Platinum.

To ensure security, the credit cards will have a chip and also a magnetic strip. As a joining benefit, customers will get an apparel voucher worth Rs. 3,000. Cards holders will also be offered access to airport lounges and fuel surcharge waiver.

No retraction system in the ATMs

The Reserve Bank of India has acceded to the proposal by National Payments Corporation of India regarding removal of cash retraction system from ATMs.

The retraction system enables the machine to engulf the withdrawn currency by the customer, if it is not removed within a certain time period.

However, several complaints have been reported where people held some notes outside and when the machine has sucked in the currency they would claim for a refund. The decision is taken in the light to avoid any such instances from occurring.
